Oleg Franssen is a character in Shadow of Memories.

Description[]

Oleg Franssen is the descendant of both Karl Franssen (painter) and Mr. Franssen (photographer) and the son of a watch maker. He has worked as a movie director for the last twenty years but has had little commercial or critical success.

Appearances[]

Chapter 3[]

2001[]

Oleg is standing by a movie poster stand in front of the South Gate. Reaching 50 years old when he first meets Eike, he comments about how life has past him by and that Eike should live each day like it was his first and last.

1979[]

When Eike is transported to 1979 by Homunculus a younger Oleg manages to see him materialise out of thin air.

Chapter 6[]

2001[]

A group of women lose interest in an advertisement for Oleg's new movie 'The Meditating Man'.

1980[]

Eike travels to the 7th of February and appears in front of the younger Oleg. Believing that his meditation brought Eike to him Oleg asks Eike for ideas on what sort of film to make. He can tell Oleg to make two movies either one with a love story angle or a Thriller Spin. Either way he gives Eike a Faberge Egg Watch made by his father as a token of his friendship.

2001[]

Returning back to the present if Eike advised Oleg well, a crowd will gather around the movie poster and Oleg's film will be a success.

Chapter 7[]

2001 - The Night Before[]

When in The Night Before Timezone, if you visit the Bar Zum Ei you will find Oleg in busy contemplation.

2001[]

Once you have the Tower Key you can exit the Watchtower in the present. If you have given the Faberge Egg Watch to the Barman in 1902, Oleg will appear in front of the movie poster by the South Gate again. Seeing Eike will remind him of their earlier encounter but he will dismiss it as a case of mistaken identity. This encounter makes Oleg ponder on the nature of time travel and inspires him for another movie idea.

Chapter 8[]

Epilogue - Ending B[]

After the conclusion, Eike will return to the Bar Zum Ei, which in the original version of the game shows an illustration with him and Oleg in the bar.

Epilogue - Ending EX: Back to Nothing[]

While not confirmed, it is very likely that when Eike prevented his own existence by preventing the djinn Homunculus from being free to manipulate the timeline, Oleg's life returned to how it was originally. This is because, without Eike influencing his life, Oleg wouldn't have come up with a successful film.

Quotes[]

Oleg: "You've come! You answered my call, didn't you?"

Oleg: "Let me introduce myself. My name is Oleg, and I am a filmmaker. Just a novice at this point, but... anyway..."

Oleg: "Ever since I saw you a year ago, I've been meditating every chance I can get, channeling all my energy toward seeing you again, and finally you answered! To think I had such power!"

Oleg: "I see that you're the type of man who prefers not to betray his excitement, but let me ask you something. If you were making a film, what kind of movie would it be?"

Oleg: "Oh, wow. I'm impressed. You've really got me. Look, please don't tell anyone about this project. Once I’m a little higher on the food chain, I can film this."

Oleg: "By the way, how does one acquire the power to do what you do? Please, please come on! Share some of your powers with me!"

Oleg: "No, wait! Please! You can't just go!"

Oleg: "Oh, you've come back! I knew it! My powers are something to be reckoned with. Come, come in closer now! Hurrgh!"

Oleg: "This is going to be one hot project, but uh... If this relates to that, and uh... It needs a little more work. Actually it's going to need a lot more work. But I must make this my masterpiece!"

Oleg: "Alright, I've got a good feeling about this one! Another major hit, no doubt about that, really."
